P2Pool 4.18.1 and Monero backport reviews — September 18–25, 2026

Published

P2Pool 4.18.1 improves sidechain handling and peer-address privacy. Three Monero backports remain under review ahead of the next stable release.

1. P2Pool 4.18.1 released

September 22, 2026 · Routine mining maintenance

Affects P2Pool operators, including Tari merge miners.

P2Pool 4.18.1 fixes handling of sidechain blocks whose parents or uncles are missing. It also prevents private IP addresses from being shared with peers and fixes a version-command crash when curl lacks SSL support. Tari merge mining requires Tari 6.0.0 or later with this release.

  • Verify the release, restart during a maintenance window and confirm sidechain synchronization and submitted shares. Check the Tari version first if merge mining is enabled.

2. Monero reviews transaction and cache backports

September 20–22, 2026 · Watch only

Affects Monero transaction validation and distribution cache.

Three proposed backports address duplicate transaction hashes, validation of pruned transaction blobs and the output-distribution cache. They remained under review at the briefing date. Monero v0.18.5.3 was not yet released.

  • Track the eventual release notes. Review approval and a backport label are not evidence that a running binary includes a fix.

Monero Research Lab — September 23, 2026

A network-topology researcher discussed evidence that a relatively small group of nodes appeared widely in peer lists. Participants clarified that a peer-list entry is not an active connection. The underlying measurements were about two years old, and some protocol details had changed. Those limits matter when using the paper to judge the current network.

Developers reported progress on wallet integration and the code used to build FCMP++ proof trees. The beta v3 stressnet fork was proposed for October 5, allowing time to test wallet migration before the change. P2Pool compatibility work was continuing.

MAGIC Grants discussed its newly published Bulletproofs+ review. The issue concerned gaps in the mathematical security argument, which further work repaired. The discussion did not announce an inflation exploit. Participants also began assessing the new Nyx eclipse-attack research.
