Feather Wallet 2.9.1: Tor Fixes and Platform Changes
Feather Wallet 2.9.1 updates Tor, drops ARM32 Linux, requires macOS 14, and removes Windows code-signing. Check compatibility and verify your download.

Feather Wallet 2.9.1, released on November 2, 2026, addresses Tor connectivity problems and changes which systems can run the Monero desktop wallet. It drops 32-bit ARM Linux support, requires macOS 14 or newer, and removes Windows executable code-signing. The official changelog recommends updating if the previous release cannot connect to a node.
Before installing, check your operating system and download the matching build. Windows users should also review Feather's GPG verification instructions, since executable code-signing is no longer part of the release process.
Fixing Feather Wallet Tor connection problems
The Tor daemon bundled with the previous Feather release was deprecated. Version 2.9.1 updates Tor to 0.4.9.11. If your wallet cannot connect, try the updated release first.
The developer also lists two ways to use Tor outside the wallet: install and run Tor systemwide, or open Tor Browser and set Feather's Tor proxy port to 9150. Keep Tor Browser running while using its proxy. Feather's Tor documentation places the controls under Settings → Network → Proxy.
Check the selected routing mode as well as the proxy address. Feather's default is Switch to Tor after initial synchronization, so initial wallet synchronization does not use Tor in that mode. Choose Always over Tor if you want remote-node connections routed through Tor from the start, accepting slower synchronization.
The release notice also lists disabling Tor as a workaround. On an ordinary desktop connection, that can expose your public IP address to the remote node. Feather's node documentation explains that a malicious node can associate outgoing transactions with an IP address when all traffic uses clearnet. Restore the Tor connection if you rely on it for network privacy.
Check Linux and macOS compatibility
ARM32 Linux is no longer supported. This affects users running a 32-bit operating system on devices such as a Raspberry Pi. The download page still lists an ARM64 Linux AppImage, so compatible devices can use a 64-bit operating system instead.
Check the architecture of both your hardware and installed OS before choosing a download. Moving to a different OS may require a reinstall. Preserve your recovery seed and back up the wallet files first.
macOS now requires version 14 or newer, up from version 12. A Mac still running macOS 12 or 13 needs a supported OS upgrade to run this release. The changelog states the new minimum but does not explain why it changed.
Windows code-signing and GPG verification
Feather's developer removed Windows code-signing after finding that it did not reduce antivirus false positives and complicated reproducible builds. That change concerns the signature Windows uses to identify a software publisher.
Feather still offers detached GPG signatures and a signed list of download hashes. Those let you check a release file against the project's signing key. An executable's Windows signing status and its GPG verification result are separate checks.

To verify a Windows download, follow Feather's Windows installation guide. It uses Gpg4win's Kleopatra application to import the release key, check its fingerprint, and verify the matching signature file.
Cross-check the fingerprint through the sources listed on Feather's release signing key page. If the fingerprint does not match or signature verification fails, stop the installation. A valid signature authenticates the file against that key. It does not prove the software is free of bugs.
For an explanation of signatures and key fingerprints, see our PGP verification guide. Its worked example uses Monero CLI downloads, so use Feather's own instructions and signing key for this wallet.
Other changes in version 2.9.1
The release notes also list these changes:
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Wallet restoration | Manual subaddress lookahead adjustment works again when restoring 25-word seeds |
| Transaction history | Fiat-value column removed because historical price data was unreliable |
| Plugins | Mining and Bounties removed as the websocket service is phased out |
| Dependencies | Monero 0.18.5.1, Qt 6.11.1, and Tor 0.4.9.11 |
| Build tools | GCC 15.2 for Linux and Windows, Clang 22 for macOS |
Real-time fiat and cryptocurrency price conversion remains supported. Removing the history column does not remove that feature.
Tails and Whonix users
Feather's download page provides a separate x64 AppImage for Tails and Whonix. Use the build intended for your system.
According to the Tor documentation, traffic on Tails and Whonix goes through Tor regardless of Feather's application settings. Connections to a local node are an exception and do not use Tor. Troubleshooting these environments therefore differs from changing a proxy on an ordinary desktop. Follow the official installation documentation and preserve the system's Tor routing.
Before you update
If Tor connectivity is failing, the developer recommends version 2.9.1. Before running it, check the new platform requirements, confirm your wallet backup, and verify the download using Feather's instructions. Get the release and its matching signature from the official download page.
