Connect your wallet to a remote node

Choose an endpoint and connect with the Monero GUI wallet.

Before you start

This guide covers the official Monero GUI wallet. Other wallets may use different labels.

A remote node supplies blockchain data without requiring you to store the whole blockchain. Your keys remain in your wallet, but a public node can observe connection information and may associate submitted transactions with your connection. Running your own node gives you more control.

Choose a node

Open the Monero Love node list and choose a clearnet endpoint marked Synced. Copy its address and port. The live list is the source of current endpoints; an old bookmark may be out of date.

Tor and I2P endpoints require additional networking configuration. Start with clearnet if your wallet is not configured for either network.

Add it to Monero GUI

  1. Check Settings → Info → Wallet mode. Custom remote nodes require Advanced mode. If necessary, close the wallet and select Change wallet mode on the welcome screen.
  2. Reopen your wallet and go to Settings → Node → Remote node.
  3. Add the hostname and port from the node list, then connect. Match the endpoint's TLS setting if your wallet asks for it.
  4. Leave a third-party node marked untrusted.

Check your connection

Wait for both the daemon connection and wallet synchronization to finish. A responsive node does not mean your wallet has finished scanning.

If connection fails, recheck the copied hostname, port and network type, then try another synced endpoint.
